Analogous Colour Harmony

Often found in nature, an analogous colour harmony consists of any three colours that lie side-by-side on the colour wheel. These schemes are low contrast, soothing, and more visually interesting than monochromatic colour harmonies while still being very harmonious.

Many designers use the 60-30-10 rule when composing analogous designs, designating:

  • one colour to be dominant (60% of the design)
  • another colour to be supportive (30% of the design)
  • and the last colour to be used for accents (10% of the design)
